Mike McGovern

Mike will be covering various approaches for facilitating Employee Engagement and zeroing in on organization design approaches to establishing self-directed/managed work teams. This involves shifting the management mindset from the manager to the team, and creating an infrastructure around the team including a Financial/Operating Model and a Risk Management Model for new product introductions, that provide the context for self-management.

Mike is an experienced organization design & development, change management, and leadership development consultant who specializes in building the capabilities of organizations and the competencies of the managers who lead them.

He has significant breadth and depth of experience across many industries including:

  • Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices
  • Oil/Gas and Petro-Chemicals
  • Mass Transit
  • Automotive Manufacturing
  • Publishing and Mass Media
  • Insurance
His clients and former employers include Abbott Labs, BP/Amoco, State Farm, International Truck & Engine, Tribune, and the Chicago Transit Authority.

He is also an experienced manager, having managed staff that ranged in size from 1 to 300, exempt and represented, both professional and blue collar.

Mike brings rich experience in the areas of organization diagnostics, alignment and design, and change management; and unique and extensive experience creating start-up functions within large enterprises, taking them from concept to ongoing operations.

Examples of his work include:

  • Providing comprehensive change management leadership to enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Assisting leaders and teams in achieving high levels of employee engagement through organization redesign interventions.
  • Facilitating designs of start-up organizations to ensure their achievement of desired outcomes.
  • Coaching and educating not-for-profit and corporate leaders to improve their individual performance in service to the effectiveness of their teams and organizations.

Mike has a Master of Science degree in Organization Development from Loyola University of Chicago, a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from DePaul University, and additional undergraduate concentrations in Communications and Sociology.
