Agile: How Teams and Organizations Can Solve Complex Problems
This workshop will give participants ideas about how an organization might approach solving complex business or technology problems using Agile techniques. Agile is a framework about solving complex problems using teams.
We will review the more traditional waterfall methodology and compare it to Agile and explore its potential benefits. This will include reviewing Scrum, the most common team approach found in Agile.
A brief history of Agile will be explored along with the theoretical foundation of Agile in order to understand the thought process that gave birth to this framework and the problems it was trying to solve.
The impact on organizations and leadership will be discussed along with the possibility of implementing Agile in broader business contexts (outside of technology and product development).
Finally, some potential “flies in the ointment” of transformation to truly Agile organizations will be shared.
· Participants will learn about the Agile Manifesto and its impact on teams and organizations.
· Participants will learn about Cynefin and its impact on decision making by leaders and organizations.
· Scrum, the most commonly used Agile framework, will be introduced to participants. Participants will learn about the applicability of Agile techniques outside of technology.
Jim Weihrouch has been in technology product development most of his career. He holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in engineering and has worked as an engineer, project manager, and product manager. During his career, Jim has paid special attention to what causes people to enjoy their work; he wrote a book “Joy at Work.” He believes that Agile frameworks remove several impediments to joy at work. Jim is a Certified Agile Leader-I and a Certified Scrum Master.
